December 1st, 2021
Broadcast scheduled for December 25, 2021 on WQED-FM Radio

The Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Harp Society presented a free one hour concert of Holiday music in the beautiful marble Carnegie Music Hall (Oakland) foyer.  Gretchen Van Hoesen, Principal Harpist of the Pittsburgh Symphony and President of the Pittsburgh Harp Chapter, gave the introductory remarks and was the chair of this event. Thirty-one harpists, some as young as seven years old, performed together under the direction of CMU’s All University Orchestra conductor, Jeffrey Klefstjed. Also featured were graduate vocal students Megan Cumming and Alyssa Vieu, and percussionists Michael and Juliana Matteo.

Gretchen Van Hoesen along with the entire CMU harp department and former CMU harp students performed, as well as harpists from the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony, Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra, Ringgold School Harp department, CAPA harp students and CAPA Harp Faculty member Marissa Knaub Avon. National prize winner, 16-year-old Sophia Jho was a featured harp soloist in Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers. Traditional Holiday Carols from around the world as well as favorite Holiday music by Holst, Leontovich, Gruber, Anderson, and others were also on the program.

This concert was streamed live and will be broadcast on WQED-FM radio on Christmas Day 2021!
