The Musicians’ Body & Soul partnership with 412 Food Rescue is, at its heart, a face-to-face experience. So how do we continue this vital work in the Covid-19 landscape? The third installment in our “If Music Be The Food” recital series to benefit 412 Food Rescue was scheduled to happen at Waverly Presbyterian Church on April 1. With an in-person gathering no longer possible, we moved to an online format. Through our Facebook Live event, PSO cellist Michael DeBruyn and his pianist wife Francesca Tortorello, PSO musician emeritus Harold Smoliar, and PSO bassist Jeff Grubbs and his jazz vocalist wife Tania Grubbs delighted virtual audiences with programs of Broadway and Jazz favorites from their individual homes. The viewership of this event is currently 9,000 and counting, and the event raised close to $1500!
As food insecurity in our region increases drastically, the work that 412 Food Rescue does is becoming even more essential. Though we are temporarily not able to physically bring our music into area communities, we are proud to support 412 Food Rescue from the safety of our homes.
